Sumler Receives "Big Time Offer" From Oregon

A bona fide playmaker with speed to burn, Miami (FL) Christopher Columbus four-star wide receiver Tacoi Sumler is one of the most explosive players hailing from the Sunshine State in 2011. Oregon recently offered the dynamic Sumler and eDuck caught up him in order to get the latest.

Do you currently have an offer from Oregon?

"Yes I do. I officially received a written offer last week."

Which coach from Oregon offered you?

"Coach (Scott) Frost and of course, Coach (Chip) Kelly."

Has Coach Frost kind of been the main guy you've been speaking with from Oregon?

"Yeah, pretty much. That's been my recruiter."

How often have you been in contact with Coach Frost throughout the recruiting process?

"We try to talk once a week."

When you spoke with Coach Kelly upon getting the offer, was that your only interaction with him?

"No I've spoken to Coach Kelly a couple of times."

What is your overall interest in Oregon at this point?

"I've always had an interest in Oregon and in getting the offer, I was very proud to get the offer. It's a big time offer for me. They just go in to the group with my offers and they will be highly evaluated, just like the other schools."

Is there anything in particular that stands out to you about Oregon?

"I mean of course you know that Oregon is doing good right now -- a top ten school -- and being an Oregon graduate, you'll always have connections. I mean you got Phil Knight there with Nike and there's just so many people that have gone through Oregon that you'll always have connections."

In your conversations with Coach Frost, did he mention anything about you possibly visiting or anything like that?

"I'm looking forward to trying to get out there for an unofficial visit this summer...but if not, I'll definitely be taking an official visit out there."

How would you describe yourself as a player?

"Just a playmaker. People criticize me because of my height, but I've also heard people say that, even though I'm not 6'3'', I play like it. I just try to make plays. I go up for balls -- I know I'm not the average height for a 6'3'' receiver or something like that -- so I know I gotta be better when I get the ball in my hands and try to get in the endzone as much as possible."

Would you compare yourself to anyone at the collegiate or professional level?

"I just put a whole bunch of people together. I want to run routes like Jerry Rice, I want to use my speed like Randy Moss...there's a couple of them."

What are you looking for in a program?

"I've been taught to put academics first, always. My mom has been an elementary school teacher for numerous years and academics always come first to me, so a education-wise school and I look forward to majoring in business management or business marketing and then something with sports markerting and sports management...something like that. A good business school or something like that would be good. I'll also look at facilities and what kind of vibe I get from the school."

What offers do you currently hold right now from other schools?

"Clemson, Stanford, Duke, Auburn, Louisville, Rutgers, Florida State, Florida International, schools like that...Cincinnati too."

Do you have a top five or anything like that at this point?

"No. I'm gonna wait till after spring -- my spring game is Friday -- so I'm gonna wait till after spring and I'll get down to the heavy evaluating and I'll have a top five by summer time."

Which unofficial or Junior Day visits have you taken, or are planning on taking?

"I took unofficial visits to South Carolina, Clemson, UCF, and Florida State. As far as this summer I gotta see how I'm doing financially, but I look forward to getting out to the West Coast and seeing some West Coast schools and just go wherever I can."
