4-star TE Niklas Has Good Interest In Oregon

Schools have criss-crossed the country in order to officially offer Anaheim (CA) Servite four-star tight end Troy Niklas. A big, strong, athletic tight end who models himself after some of the most elite tight ends in the NFL, Niklas spoke with eDuck recently to spill the beans on recruiting.

Do you currently have an offer from Oregon?

"I don't think so. I think the coach talked to me about it, but I don't think I have an official offer from them."

Which coach from Oregon have you talked to since the recruiting process started for you?

"You know, I don't remember his name. I had just talked to him once when he came to our school."

What is your overall interest in Oregon right now?

"I have good interest in Oregon. They have a great school and a great football program obviously. I just have to go up there and see how I fit in with everyone else."

Is there anything in particular that sticks out to you when you consider Oregon?

"Probably the fact that have extremely cool uniforms and also one of my really good friends from way back when I was four years old goes there. He's their starting kicker."

How would you describe yourself as a player?

"Determined, I guess you could say athletic for my position, diverse -- I can play a bunch of different positions."

Would you compare yourself to anyone at the collegiate or professional level?

"As a tight end, probably Jason Witten or Heath Miller."

What are you looking for in a program?

"Well number one, I want a great education and after that, I want to be around people who are going to make me a better person. And thirdly, I want to go to a place that's going to compete for a national championship."

Have you given any thought as to what you might want to study when you get to college?

"I was gonna go in to a medical field, but now that the medical bill hasn't passed, I'm changing my mind."

What offers do you currently hold from other schools?

"I have Florida, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Oregon State, Cal, Stanford, UCLA, Colorado, and Notre Dame. I think that's pretty much all of them."

In your conversation with the coach from Oregon, did he discuss anything about getting you up to Eugene for a potential visit?

"Yeah. He talked about getting me up for a camp or something, so I'm just getting mail from them to see when the camp is and everything and if I can get up there."

Did he discuss anything about a potential offer coming through soon for you or anything like that?

"Yeah, he said he was gonna go up and talk to his staff after we spoke."

Do you have a top list of schools at this point?

"Not at this point. I haven't really been able to get out and see the schools and stuff like that enough to really get a good decision about my top three."

Have you taken any unofficial visits yet or do you plan on taking any unofficial visits?

"I don't really have any plans at this point, but I'll probably end up taking some sort of road trip along the West Coast and check out all the schools."
