Levingston Is A Student Of The Game

A hard worker who never envisioned this level of attention from colleges across the country, Harbor City (CA) Nathaniel Narbonne offensive lineman Dontae Levingston has become a hot name on the recruiting trail. Holding offers most notably from Oregon and Florida, Levingston sat down with eDuck recently to discuss his interest in the Ducks.

Do you currently have an offer from Oregon?

"Yes I do."

How long ago did you get that offer?

"Actually, I got the papers about two or three weeks ago."

What kind of contact have you had with Oregon since the recruiting process started for you?

"Before I had an offer, it wasn't much, but ever since then I talk to Coach (Chip) Kelly and Coach (Steve) Greatwood and Coach Don (Pellum)."

How often would you say you're in contact with those guys?

"I talk to all the coaches at least once a week."

Who was the coach who offered you officially?

"Coach Greatwood called me and told me that they were gonna offer me, but Coach Greatwood and Coach Don both sent me papers saying that they were gonna officially offer me."

What is your overall interest in Oregon right now?

"Well right now, I'm trying to cut off schools and right now I so far have three favorites that I really like and that's Oregon, Florida, and SMU."

What is it that has you so interested in Oregon right now?

"It is really the coaches. I talk to the offensive line coach a lot and my relationship with Coach Greatwood is very good. So for me to have a good relationship with my offensive line coach -- and also the head coach -- is a big key to my success in college."

How would you describe yourself as a player?

"I'm very determined. I don't like to get beat. I like to be the best out there. I don't want nobody better than me. I'm very fast, I've got good footwork, and I'm very good at getting up to the second level and working screens."

Would you compare yourself to anyone at the collegiate or professional level?

"No not really. I just try to take some of the best in game and just put it all in to one. I watch Michael Oher and a lot of his pass blocking and stuff...and I study defensive ends a lot and see how I could stop that move or something like that."

Who are some of the defensive ends you study?

"Richard Seymour, I used to look at Derrick Burgess, I look at Shawne Merriman, Shaun Phillips...really I study teams -- the Chargers, the Raiders...the Colts defensive end, Dwight Freeney...basically the top defensive ends in the league right now, that's all I look at. I see what type of techniques and moves they like to use."

What position along the offensive line are most schools looking at you at?

"Tackle. Every school me is looking at me as an offensive tackle. Some maybe guard, but I can play anything. I can play guard, tackle...I even went to a camp and tried center and it wasn't that bad."

What are you looking for in a program?

"Really, I don't know. I'm new to all this. I never thought I'd get an opportunity to get all these good schools looking at me, so really I'd just like to see the education and all that stuff. The coach is a big key too as to what I'm gonna do in college."

Have you given any thought as to what you might want to study when you get to college?

"Yeah. Business or Sports Management."

What are the offers you currently hold from other schools?

"I have SMU, Wyoming, San Diego State, Oregon, Florida, Nevada, New Mexico."

Is your top three of Oregon, Florida, and SMU in any order?

"No. Everybody is in the same spot, it's just that, those are the three schools that are really after me and those are the coaches that I really have the best connection with. It could easily change, it's not a set top three right now. It could easily change."

Is there any schools that haven't offered that you're hearing a lot from right now?

"UCLA and USC...but I don't know what's going to happen with USC now...Montana, Oregon State, Washington I heard was supposed to come down and talk to me...that's really it that I can think of."

Have you taken any unofficial visits yet or do you have any planned out?

"Right now I'm in Dallas, Texas. I went to SMU today...I'm probably gonna go down to Florida and Oregon, but I'm just not too sure."

Are you working out any specific dates to visit with the Oregon coaching staff?

"I'm still working that out because I was gonna try and go out there for a camp but it just doesn't fit in with my schedule."
