Ricardo Williams Puts Oregon In Top Three

If previous recruiting cycles serve as any evidence, Oregon prefers its defensive ends long and athletic with ability to get after the quarterback and cloud passing lanes. Meet Homestead (FL) Homestead Senior three-star defensive end Ricardo Williams, who could be exactly what the Duck coaching staff is looking for at the position.

Do you currently have an offer from Oregon?

What kind of contact have you had with Oregon since the recruiting process started for you?

"Well it's been kind of slow. When they flew down here to see me, that's when they offered me. Besides that, they gave me a card and I've been calling the card but I haven't really been getting any answer so I don't really ever get to talk to them. I've been calling them though, I just haven't been able to get in contact with them."

What is your overall interest in Oregon right now?

"I've been looking at that school for a long time, but I never thought they'd come this far to recruit so I wasn't really trying to scratch it. When they came down here though, I liked everything about the program. They're going to BCS games every year and I see a lot of players go there and get a chance to play, so I was surprised when they offered me...I see them a lot on TV and they're in BCS games a lot, so that got my attention right there."

How would you describe yourself as a football player?

"I've got a motor. Every play I go hard and I don't ever stop. I can get to the quarterback pretty quick and I'm bringing pressure."

Is there a player at the collegiate or professional level that you try to pattern your game after?

"Yeah, of course, of course. Jason Taylor. That's who I used to watch a lot and we're kind of built the same way, so I compare myself to him."

What are you looking for in a program?

"I see what type of defenses they're playing. 'Do they play first-year players?' I want to go somewhere where I can play, because I know I can play my first year. I want to see what kind of coaches they have and that's pretty much it."

Is distance a factor for you at all?

"It's a factor, but if I get a chance to show what I got, if I can get a chance to get on the field my first year, I don't mind going out there."

Have you given any thought as to what you might want to study when you get to college?

"I haven't decided yet. That's what I'm trying to decide now in the summer because I want to go in and have my mind made up in deciding what I'm going to do."

What are some of the offers that you have right now from other schools?

"I've got offers from Purdue, I've got offers from Central Florida, Florida State, Syracuse, Texas Tech, Alabama...it's a lot...Georgia Tech, Georgia, Rutgers. Those are a few schools, but there's a lot more."

Do you have a top list of schools at this point?

"I've got a top five, but I think I've got two slots open. I know for sure three schools in that top five: Florida State, Oregon, and Central Florida."

Have you taken any unofficial visits yet, or do you plan on taking any unofficial visits?

"I took one unofficial visit to the University of Miami, so my next one should be on the 27th when I go to New Jersey for the Rutgers one. That's the next time I'm gonna take one."
