Michigan ATH Is a Duzey

Poised to play either wide receiver or tight end at the collegiate level, Troy (MI) Athens athlete Jake Duzey provides versatility and flexibility for any offense. The Oregon coaching staff has offered Duzey and eDuck caught up with the player from the Wolverine State to get the latest on his recruitment.

Do you currently have an offer from Oregon?

"Yeah I do."

What kind of contact have you had with Oregon since the recruiting process started for you?

"Coach (Tom) Osborne, the tight ends coach, came out when they were able to visit -- to our school. I met him for a minute there. He called me and I called him and he took some film and saw that. It's just been calls and stuff like that."

Has Coach Osborne been the only coach you've been in contact with from Oregon?

"I went out there and met all the coaches, but just who's been calling, it's been him."

How long ago were you in Eugene?

"I was there for three days (earlier in June)."

Were you there for an unofficial visit or were you there for a camp?

"It was an unofficial visit."

Take us through your visit and the time you spent in Eugene.

"Well we came in on a Monday night and saw some family, because we have some family out there, and then on Tuesday morning I met all the coaches and then just started the tour. We talked to some academic people, went through the facilities and things like that. We pretty much did that all day really. We just talked to different academic guys, different coaches, sat down and went through some position stuff and just talked about football. I then talked to the head coach, Coach (Chip) Kelly, for a little while."

What was your impression of the coaching staff after finally getting to spend some quality one-on-one time with them?

"I liked everybody. There wasn't anybody I didn't like. They're all pretty nice guys. I just liked them all."

What were your impressions of Eugene from the short time you were there?

"I liked it all. I like the outdoors kind of thing out there. It's not too big of a town and everyone loves the football team so that's pretty sweet. I liked everything there."

What is your overall interest in Oregon at this point?

"I like them a lot. They're definitely one of my top schools right now. I'm hoping to make a decision sometime soon."

Do you have a specific timetable set for making a decision?

"I was hoping within a week or so. Maybe sooner than that."

What are your top schools at this point?

"I haven't really told anybody and I can't really cancel anybody out yet. I'm just gonna kind of pick out the school eventually, so I can't really single anybody out."

What is it in particular about Oregon that has you interested?

"Just the whole football program. I know it's top of the line and the best kind of football you can play. I like the coaches and just the whole atmosphere of the place was something I really liked there."

Is distance a factor for you at all?

"Yeah it is. That's probably one of the only big things right now, so we'll see."

How would you describe yourself as a football player?

"I played wide receiver in high school, kind of an H-back. I guess I kind of just see myself as an explosive player who's big and powerful and can get up the field pretty fast."

Do you try to pattern your game after anyone at the collegiate or professional level?

"I guess I'm kind of like Blair White from Michigan State a little bit."

What are you looking for in a program?

"Number one is always going to be academics and then the chance to play in two years. And I don't want to be just a situational tight end and just block every play. I'd rather catch the ball. That's what I feel I'm best at."

Do you know what you might want to study when you get to college?

"I was thinking maybe something in the medical field. I'm not completely sure yet."

What are some of the offers that you hold right now from other schools?

"A lot of the MAC schools and then Purdue, Cincinnati, Oregon, Iowa, Michigan State...I think I have 11 altogether."

And at this point there isn't anyone specifically leading?

"Not really."

Do you have any other unofficial visits planned or have you scheduled any official visits for the fall?

"No, I'm all done visiting right now. I just got to make a decision."
