Could Kelley Be The Next Commit At Receiver?

In the wake of Miami (FL) Christopher Columbus four-star wide receiver Tacoi Sumler's verbal commitment to Oregon, the potential is there for the Ducks to find themselves in line for another receiver commitment in the form of three-star wideout B.J. Kelley from Fresno (CA) Central. eDuck caught up with Kelley to get the latest on his recruitment and his newest, most coveted offer.

Do you currently have an offer from Oregon?

How long ago did you get that offer?

"About three weeks ago."

What kind of contact have you had with Oregon since the recruiting process started for you?

"I think one of (the coaches) came down from Oregon during the school year and had talked with my coach. My coach showed them my highlight tape and I got in contact with Coach (Scott) Frost on Facebook. Most of the time when we talk it's e-mail or Facebook or I give him a call."

How often would you say that you're in contact with Coach Frost?

"I probably call him every week now."

Has he been the only coach from Oregon that you've been in contact with?

"I've talked to Coach (Mark) Helfrich a couple of times."

What is your overall interest in Oregon at this point?

"Well they're my number one school. They've always been my number one, so I'm really excited. I was happy when I found out they offered me, because I really didn't know at first. When Scout had asked me earlier if they offered me, I said 'No', but then I called Coach Frost and he clarified that I was offered, I just have to wait to come up there before I accept. They're my number one and I'm really excited about it."

What is it about Oregon that has you so interested in them?

"Well I went to this bookstore and I looked up colleges and stuff and they had this one book that explains a lot about the colleges and had a lot of opinions from the students out there. Basically, in the book, it said that Oregon is very beautiful, has the best facilities, and students up there love it and it's one of the top programs athletically too -- they excel in everything they do. I'm always watching them play on TV all the time, so I've always liked their look and their coaches and stuff. But just reading that book, just clarifying that it's a good place to go and get a good degree excites me, so I want to go up there and see what it looks like and see if it's beautiful like the book says."

Have you made any plans for an unofficial or official visit yet?

"Yeah. I just talked to Coach Frost today and we're gonna try and go on my bye week, which will probably be sometime in September for an official."

How would you describe yourself as a player?

"As a player, I'm pretty explosive off the ball -- pretty fast -- I have good hands and stuff. The thing I need to work on most is making my routes more crisp and stuff, but I catch the ball, run my routes good, and I'll burn anybody and I'll make the important catches and the hard catches as well as make the easy and simple catches."

Is there a guy at the collegiate or professional level that you try to pattern your game after?

"A couple people say I'm like (Larry) Fitzgerald from Arizona. They compare me to him, but I don't really compare myself to anybody."

You're teammates with Washington verbal commit, Brendon Bigelow. Do you guys talk about playing in college together?

"Yeah, at first we were planning on going to the same school, but things change, so right now we're not really sure. But we talk all the time about it and I told him that Oregon is one of my favorites right now and he supports me so I hope he goes to my school, but yeah, we talk about it all the time."

What are you looking for in a program?

"First of all, I look at the schools academics and make sure they have good academics and Oregon definitely does. Otherwise, I look at the sports and Oregon is one of the top, so I look at that too. Basically, I'm gonna make sure I'm in an environment that I'll be comfortable with and that I'll enjoy."

Have you given any thought as to what you might want to study when you get to college?

"I'm not really sure yet. I think about it all the time, but I haven't decided yet."

What are some of the offers that you currently hold from other schools?

"I have an offer from Arizona and Arizona State. I have offers from Washington State, Oregon State, Fresno State, Cal-Poly, Eastern Michigan, Idaho, San Diego State...I have a total of 11, but those are the ones I'm thinking of right now."

You said that Oregon is at the top of your list, but do you have a top list of schools at this point?

"Yeah. It'd be Oregon, Cal, Northwestern, then Arizona and then Arizona State."

Do you have a timetable for making a decision?

"I probably want to have a decision made by the end of my season. Definitely some time between then."

Have you taken or set up any visits with any of the schools you've been hearing from?

"As well as Oregon, I want to go to Northwestern, Arizona, and Idaho to visit."

Have you taken any unofficial visits yet?

"No, but I am gonna take an unofficial visit soon to Cal-Poly."
