Oregon Fall Camp: Day 9 - Morning

Ducks stress tempo during an overcast morning session on the ninth day of fall camp.

1. Morning sessions of double days tend to be nothing more than glorified walkthroughs filled with hands-on instruction and attention to detail. Today, Oregon head coach Chip Kelly stressed the importance of tempo as the Ducks begin conditioning themselves for the break-neck offensive pace they plan to employ this upcoming season.

"We've just got to get a sense of urgency," said Kelly after practice, "The quicker we get lined up, the better it is to see everything. I think they slowed down for the officials (yesterday). Even if the officials are spotting the ball, we should still be lined up."

2. After getting a chance to review the film from yesterday's practice, Kelly said the performances of players like true freshman defensive tackle Ricky Heimuli and sophomore defensive end Dion Jordan particularly stood out to him.

"Ricky Heimuli jumped out on film and Dion Jordan REALLY jumped out on film yesterday," remarked Kelly,

"(Jordan's) really going to be a force to be reckoned with because he's so strong, but he's so fast...he's a unique combination for us. Really, the play of the d-line was the thing that really stood out for me on tape."

3. Sophomore running back LaMichael James returned to practice today and participated about as much as a player wearing a red non-contact jersey could participate. He was seen fielding punts and running with the first-team offense during 7-on-7's, showing no apparent ill effects from the knee-tweak he suffered during practice this past Saturday.

"He was in red, but he was in team drills and everything," said Kelly,

"When a guy's in red, we just don't need him to get hit, but he was out there running around."
