FRAME GAME: Fumble Rumble

Penn State may have lost to No. 1 Alabama. But it was hardly due to a lack of hustle. Check out the still-frame action of the wackiest play of the game.

Penn State appeared to be headed toward a second-quarter score against Alabama in Tuscaloosa Saturday. Then all hell broke loose.

On a second-down play in the red zone, wideout Chaz Powell caught a short pass and picked up four yards. But he was hit and fumbled, prompting a crazy chain of events that resulted in the Nittany Lions ultimately regaining possession — albeit near their own goal line more than 80 yards away from the previous spot.

As goofy as the action was, several Penn State players displayed strong hustle and heart in what at times seemed like a futile attempt to prevent the Crimson Tide from scoring.

See what went down in the extended version of our exclusive high-angle, frame-by-frame breakdown of the play below.
