Cory's PSU Recruiting Notebook

Get an update on several Penn State football prospects like Darian Cooper, Bill Belton, Albert Louis-Jean and Kyshoen Jarrett, among others.

Here are the latest reports on several Penn State prospects:

  • Previously I had reported that PSU had heard from five Pitt players, only being interested in and taking Ben Kline. Well I think its safe to say that the remaining four did not include Kyshoen Jarrett or Bill Belton.

I had later reported that the answer on Jarrett and Belton was a "no," for now. Well some of that has changed; after some deliberation on the fit in the class and how to approach the recruitment, the answer for Belton came back a resounding "yes."

Coach McQueary visited Bill Belton yesterday and my sources say it went "really, really good." While obviously Belton did not commit to the Nittany Lions, another source said it looks like PSU has a "great shot" at landing the NJ athlete.

  • The situation with PSU and Kyshoen Jarrett has not changed, but change may be on the horizon. My sources say that PSU has put Jarrett "on hold" for now and that status may be dependant on what happens with Massachusetts DB Albert Louis-Jean.

One source said things looked great for the Nittany Lions with ALJ. Another source agreed, but admitted that it will now be a battle with new Miami coach Al Golden. If things fall apart with ALJ and he sticks with Miami, it seems likely that a full court press will be put on Kyshoen Jarrett.

  • Last thing that I am hearing is that Maryland DT Darian Cooper is the only defensive tackle the Nittany Lions are recruiting "for now." To me, that means that Shaun Underwood is no longer in play.

I don't think it has anything to do with Glenville DL Andre Sturdivant. I say that because my sources seem to think the Glenville trio are/have been a long shot at best along the way. At this point, I believe PSU is not counting on getting any of them, but if they can snag one, two, or all three of them that would simply be gravy at this point.
