Curley on Paterno in 2011

Penn State's athletic director chimes in on the topic of the Nittany Lion football coach's future. Check out the story and our free video.

TAMPA -- Penn State athletic director Tim Curley is the latest member of the Nittany Lion family to chime in on the status of football coach Joe Paterno.

Speaking prior to the Outback Bowl's DeBartolo Team Luncheon at the Tampa Convention Center Wednesday, Curley said he expects the 84-year-old coach to be back in 2011. This was a day after Paterno, major college football's all-time wins leader with 401, reiterated his intention to return in '11.

“We're focused on getting another bowl win,” Curley said when asked if he expected Paterno to be back in 2011. “Then next year, (the program has) the prospects of a young team coming back, and Joe and the staff.”

Curley was also asked specifically about widespread rumors that there is a plan in place to hire a new coach following the season, that a new coach has already been hired and that Paterno's health is much worse than is being portrayed.

“No truth to any of those comments,” Curley said.
