|School:||Butler, Pa. (Butler HS)|
There had been whispers from the western half of Pennsylvania that Butler HS linebacker Tyrell Sales would be visiting Penn State for this past weekend's junior day. Were the whispers correct?
"No. I haven't been up there yet. I'm going in two weeks. Yesterday was their junior day, but I had a track meet so I couldn't make it," admitted Tyrell, who competed in the Tri-State Invitational this weekend throwing the shot (he also throws the discus and javelin but not this weekend.)
Tyrell will definitely be heading to Penn State on April 16 with Butler's head coach, linebacker coach, and defensive coordinator. Originally the staff wanted him to come to visit last weekend, but things may work out better for Penn State on the 16th, as they will be the focus of national media attention that day.
"I wanted to make sure I went up and saw it. I knew I wasn't going to be able to make the junior day so I talked to Coach Bradley and we came up with a date that would be good. That'll be the day they have ESPN out there, the college gameday thing."
Since LionNews' last update with Tyrell on March 26th, he has received additional offers to his current offers from Pittsburgh, West Virginia, and Syracuse. Both Maryland and Penn State extended scholarship offers last weekend.
How and when did the Nittany Lions let Tyrell know that he had a scholarship offer on the table?
"They asked me to call on Tuesday (through his head coach) and when I did, they told me," said Tyrell. "[Coach Bradley] just let me know that they are going to offer a scholarship and talked about getting a day together where I'd be able to go out there."
Tyrell will be at Nike Camp at Penn State on April 27th, although he is not sure he can make it to the Blue-White Game the day before. Which camps will Tyrell be looking at this summer?
"I'm going to try to get to a couple, try and get to Virginia and maybe Virginia Tech. And then I'll be around to Ohio State, Pitt and West Virginia and see all those schools again."
LionNews can now confirm offers to Pennsylvania's Chad Henne, Dan Connor, Anthony Morelli, A.Q. Shipley, Greg Harrison, Tyrell Sales, and Kyle Mitchum (there are also rumored offers to Darrelle Revis and Chris Rogers). This crop of recruits seems to be one of the best the Keystone State has produced in a couple years, making it critical for Penn State's coaches to target.
