A Long Introduction

Former Division I athlete and Newhouse graduate Beth Long joins the Fight On State team as a recruiting reporter.

Fight On State is proud to announce the addition of Beth Long to our staff. She joins the FOS family as a recruiting reporter. Her addition bolsters a team that already offers the strongest coverage of Penn State sports available online.

Beth hails from the mountains of North Carolina — namely, the small town of Franklin. She isn't a stranger to Pennsylvania though, having spent the first two years of her life living in Harrisburg.

Her love for sports stems from before she could walk, when her dad told her he wouldn't stand for his daughter to be a sports idiot. From then on she watched football, baseball and basketball with him; learning the sports inside and out.

That's where it all started, and Beth played just about any sport that she could while growing up. She excelled in cross country, track and swimming in high school, then continuing on to compete in all three sports at the Division I level.

She spent her undergraduate years at Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, N.C., then used her fifth year of eligibility in track last year at Syracuse University while attaining a masters degree in broadcast journalism from the prestigious Newhouse School of Public Communications.

In the six months since graduation, Beth has been working with a regional cable sports network in Syracuse covering the Orange football, basketball and lacrosse teams.

Now she will be handling recruiting reporting for Fight On State, joining Cory James and Scout.com's team of regional and national experts to provide coverage for the site.

Beth's responsibilities will include site-specific Penn State prospect profiles and updates, interaction on the TAP Forum and TAP Chat, and video interviews with recruits. She will also contribute to FOS The Magazine.

Please join us in welcoming Beth to the FOS Community.
