On offense last season, Dan carried the ball 144 times, gaining 1200 yards on the ground and scoring 23 touchdowns. Dan also plays linebacker for Cumberland Valley, but he is being recruited to play fullback at the next level, his position of preference.
According to his father, Dan currently has scholarship offers from Maryland, Penn State, Iowa and Vanderbilt (earlier this week). Michigan, Michigan State and Notre Dame are some of the other schools interested in the bruising fullback.
Lawlor attended both the Blue-White game and the Nike camp at Penn State a year ago at this time. He also travelled to Maryland last year to take in the Terrapins' spring game. Dan and his father returned to both Maryland (February 22) and Penn State (March 29) for junior days this year and were thoroughly impressed during their visits to both schools.
Larry Johnson is recruiting Lawlor for Penn State. The Nittany Lion coaching staff unanimously agreed to extend Dan a scholarship offer in early March.
The Lawlors will be heading down to Virginia Tech this weekend to attend the Hokies' spring game. Although Dan's father played tackle for Tech during his collegiate career, it was apparent during our conversation that this would have no bearing on Dan's decision.
Dan also plans to attend either the Blue-White game at Penn State again this year, or the spring game at Notre Dame which takes place on the same day. He will most likely not attend the Nike Camp at Penn State the following day.
