Big Tackle Has Big Offer

Cumberland Valley High's huge offensive tackle, Wyatt Bowman, recently received his first scholarship offer. More are sure to follow. Which teams are interested?

Name: Wyatt Bowman
Position: OT
Height: 6'6"
Weight: 314 pounds
40-yard dash: 5.2 seconds
Bench Press: 335 pounds
School: Mechanicsburg, Pa. (Cumberland Valley HS)

"He played offensive tackle and spot played defensive tackle," Cumberland Valley head coach, Tim Rimpfel, said of his big lineman. "This year, he's going to have to go both ways. He broke his foot the summer before his sophomore year. Without that, I'm sure he would've been starting his sophomore year. Last year, he started on offense and we would rotate him in on defense.

"He has very good technique and improving footspeed. I think he gets off the ball fairly well and that's going to be improved, I know that.

"He's going to be a big-time college tackle. There's no doubt about that because he's smart and once he's on you he doesn't let go."

Wyatt visited both Pittsburgh and Penn State so far this year. His visit to Penn State last month was highlighted by a scholarship offer from the Nittany Lions.

"Penn State offered him about two weeks ago and I just got a copy of the letter from JoePa. They're all coming in on them (Bowman and teammate Dan Lawlor) now. Once Penn State offers, they all just following along."

Maryland, Virginia and Rutgers are just a few of the other schools expressing interest in Bowman. So far, Penn State is the only team that has offered.

Larry Johnson is recruiting Wyatt for Penn State. Is Wyatt a Penn State fan?

"He transferred down here after his freshman year from Central Mountain High School, which is Penn State territory, so he's been around Penn State there for a long time."

Coach Rimpfel acknowledged that Bowman was excited about the Penn State offer.

"Penn State and Pittsburgh I think are your two top ones as far as his interest and their interest."
