Ken Ekanem, a DE prospect out of Centerville High in Clifton, Va., has offers from eight schools out of the ACC, SEC and Big East — and is waiting on one from the Lions.
From what he is hearing, he hopes an offer will be extended his way soon, maybe even this weekend.
He has already visited twice, once for a camp in June and for the Michigan State game last season.
"The first thing I like is the campus," Ekanem said of his previous visits. "I like the facilities a lot from what I saw. I like the majority of the coaches, they were very welcoming when I came. They all knew me. I liked Coach [Larry] Johnson a lot."
Another thing that Ekanem likes is PSU's academics. "From what I hear Penn State's academics are really good," Ekanem said. "Everyone I talk to around here tells me that Penn State has the best academic system out of all the ones that are interested in you."
School is something that Ekanem is serious about. "Academics are very important," Ekanem said. "I definitely want to get to a good academic school. I want to get my degree and pursue that."
His degree is the most important thing to him right now, no matter what path it takes to receive it. "If I redshirt that means I get five years of eligibility and five years of learning," Ekanem said. "If I do that I want to go to a good school."
He added with a chuckle, "I don't want to be a stereotypical football player in college; I want to get good grades."
Ekanem wants to major in business management, because one day he wants to take over his father's business. But, for now, football is his business.
"My greatest strength is the pass rushing and my pursuit," Ekanem said. "I pursue the ball a lot from the back side."
As for his final decision, he wants to make an event of it. "We get five official visits, I want to take all five before I make a decision," Ekanem said. "I think it would be really cool to make my decision on signing day or if I make it to an All-American game or something."-30-
