SHORT REPORT: Massaro Injured

Penn State's starting defensive end was hurt in practice Friday, according to team sources. It is the program's second significant injury of the spring.

It's been a tough week for the Penn State football team.

During practice Friday, defensive end Pete Massaro sustained what sources described as a “serious knee injury.” They could not be more specific.

A redshirt junior, Massaro sustained a torn right ACL in the 2009 Blue-White Game, causing him to miss the entire '09 season. He saw his first action as a redshirt sophomore last year, leading all defensive ends with 37 tackles. He had eight tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks.

Massaro started the last 11 games of the 2010 season.

Earlier this week, receiver Curtis Drake was shut down for the rest of the spring due to an unspecified leg injury.

We will have more on this story as information becomes available.
