Before Hyattsville, Md., standout Brent Wilkerson visited Happy Valley the last weekend in March, he was not sure he would leave as the third commitment of the Nittany Lions' Class of 2012.
"The chance was probably 75 percent to 25 percent [of committing]," Wilkerson said. "I wasn't planning to commit at all, I just wanted to meet the coaches in person and talk with them."
He added, "They really made me very comfortable, plus the family atmosphere — and they had what I needed to succeed, so I went ahead and committed."
And after he did, Wilkerson knew that he had made the right decision.
"My family was happy for me. My father felt it was the right choice," Wilkerson said. "Plus, my mom was happy that it was a close choice and they can travel and come see me play."
His friends felt the same way.
"They were all excited for me," Wilkerson said. "They all knew that it was kind of my dream school."
As for how sure he is that PSU is the place he will play his college ball?
"I am 99 percent sure that Penn State is for me," Wilkerson said. "I am pretty much set with PSU, and I probably won't take any more visits."
Wilkerson chose the Lions over 17 other verbal offers because Happy Valley was different than the rest.
"You feel like part of the family," Wilkerson said. "The fans are the best part, they have been hitting me up on Facebook."
Another thing he likes? "Everything revolves around the football team at Penn State," Wilkerson said. "It's kind of a football place."
A football place -- one where Wilkerson plans to spend his collegiate career.
