PSU Nike Camp Notes

Get the latest from the Nike Camp that is being held on Penn State's campus this Saturday right here from the FOS Staffers in attendance.

First, the Nike Camp is being conducted on the Penn State lacrosse field across from the Jordan Center. The outdoor football field next to Holuba Hall is getting torn up and re-sodded currently. Mark Brennan and Beth Long from the FOS Staff say the lacrosse field is very nice and in great condition for the camp.

Among the players who are at the Nike Camp include Corey Smith (WR, Oh), Tyrique Jarrett (OL/DL, Pa) and Marquis Bundy (WR, Az). Bundy toured PSU's campus and facilities on Friday. One sidenote on Jarrett is that he registered for the Nike Camp as an offensive lineman, but they are looking at him at both the OL and DL positions. As of this report they have not conducted 1-on-1 drills yet, but they are on the agenda for later today.

Several Maryland prospects are at the camp, including Ryan Watson (OG), Brian Gaia (OG) and Tyler Thompson (LB/Saf).

Kaiwan Lewis (LB, NJ) is working with the linebackers in the camp and described by Brennan as looking "like a beast."

Guys who were originally expected but are not in attendance at the Nike Camp include:

Blake Rankin
Jesse James
Greg Garmon
Adam Bisnowaty

As a side note 2013 QB prospect Ryan Burns was up for the Elite 11 session on Friday and is visiting the campus today, apparently Galen Hall is showing him around.

2013 LB Evan Harvey from Palm Beach Gardens, Fl is at the camp. FOS Analyst Beth Long is planning on catching up with him to determine his interest in PSU given the hike he took to get to State College.

Also Clarion, Pa LB TJ Armstrong is getting rave reviews; said to be "big and strong" in drills.

PSU prospect Demetrius Cox is also working with the defensive back group.

Pa. WR Corey Jones Smith has looked good in drills. Also Corey Smith stood out among the receivers. Both made some impressive grabs in passing drills.

Defensive lineman Eli Ankou from Ontario, Canada played both DT and DE in drills and "was really a handful" fro most of his assignments in 1-on-1s.

Also Treyvon Hestor from Penn Hill was among the best offensive linemen at the camp. The staff matched up him and Tyrique Jarrett in what ended up being the best 1-v-1 battle of the day; Jarrett was at DT and Hawkins at OG. Hawkins ended up edging out Jarrett, just as time expired, but he ended up with a bloody mouth. The two players shook hands though and ended on a high note.

Jarrett is said to be a "monster" and saw reps with both the offensive and defensive lines.

Tyler Alt (OL, Pa) also has looked good, holding his own in many of the 1-v-1 drills.

Michael Boland (OT, Md) looked solid in the sessions as well.

Here are the MVPs from the PSU Nike Camp:

Ryan Watson DL MVP

Treyvon Heston OL MVP

Corey Jones WR MVP

Perry Hills QB MVP

Dakota Conwell LB

Marchez Coates DB MVP

DeVante McFarlane RB MVP
