LIFT FOR LIFE: Player Perspectives

Nobody is more excited about Penn State's Ninth Annual Lift for Life Challenge Friday than the Nittany Lions themselves.

Though the event is the most difficult workout of the off-season, it also helps raise money and awareness for the fight against kidney cancer through the PSU chapter of Uplifting Athletes. So the Lions rally behind it every year.

We touched base with a few players to see why the event, strenuous though it may be, means so much to them.

If you would like to help the cause, visit the PSU Lift For Life Page to make a donation and/or to back your favorite player.

Lift for Life kicks off at 2 p.m. at Holuba Hall Friday.

QB Matt McGloin

Participating in Lift for Life is something that I have always considered important because of the chance that it gives us as a team to help others. Everyone has seen the great things that Penn State students do with THON every year, and we like to have a chance to do something of our own while following their lead.

Lift for Life has become a tradition at Penn State and we want to continue seeing it grow every year. That is not possible without the help of our fans.

OL Mike Farrell

Serving as president of Uplifting Athletes and Lift for Life is a responsibility that I take seriously because of the people who have served in this position before me. They have been vital members of our team in many ways and improved themselves as leaders through their role in the organization.

I hope to help to continue and improve upon the great success that all the Penn State teams have had in the previous years with this event. I am excited to see so much support from our fans at the event, and can't wait to have another successful Lift for Life and 2011 season.

DT Jordan Hill

I enjoy taking part in Lift For Life because it gives me a chance to use the position I am in as a Penn State football player to give back to others. Knowing that taking part in a workout can make so much of a difference for others makes it difficult to turn down the chance to be a part of it.

We always like it when the fans come out to support us on the day of the event and hopefully we get another good turnout by the fans again this Friday.

Again, if you have the means to support this great Penn State event please make a donation at the PSU Lift For Life Page or attend to root on the players in their quest to eliminate Kidney Cancer. is proud to be the official online media partner of Lift For Life for the ninth consecutive year. Please join us in supporting this great Penn State tradition.
