Wartman on His Decision

Archbald, Pa., LB Nyeem Wartman has decided to keep his talents in state. He talked to Fight On State about his decision to pull the trigger and commit to the Nittany Lions.

Valley View HS LB Nyeem Wartman is the latest in the Class of 2012 to pick the Nittany Lions.

Wartman attended Friday's Lift for Life event, and shortly after informed PSU assistant coach Ron Vanderlinden of his big decision.

"His reaction was he hugged me five times," Wartman said. "He was ecstatic."

Wartman enjoyed the event and Happy Valley enough to commit several weeks before he had originally intended.

"Penn State out-matched all the other schools that I liked in every category," Wartman said. "They also have a lot of tradition and I like that."

But that isn't all he liked about the Lions.

"They told me what I wanted to hear," Wartman said. "They told me that they liked me a lot, and that they wanted to try and get me on the field as a freshman."

Another big influence on his decision was a future teammate.

"Camren Williams is very cool," Wartman said of another member of PSU's Class of 2012. "He was a big part of my decision. He will give me another linebacker to push me while I am there."

Wartman chose PSU over offers from Boston College, Florida, North Carolina State, Northwestern, Pitt and Rutgers.

And the rest of the Archbald, Pa., standout's summer plans are pretty simple.

"Just practicing hard," Wartman said. "And getting ready for football."

And, of course, getting ready to join Linebacker U.
