Catching Up With Stanko

Warren, Ohio standout OL Anthony Stanko became Penn State's first commitment for the class of 2012 in mid-March. Fight On State catches up with Stanko about his summer, weight loss, and his upcoming senior season.

Howland HS standout OL Anthony Stanko had one big goal at the end of his junior football season -- losing 35 pounds.

Fast forward to today, and Stanko has achieved a much slimmer, stronger physique.

"I feel like a different person," Stanko said. "I had to wear jeans the other day to bail hay, and I felt like I was in one of those commercials on TV."

Stanko hit his goal this spring, and has been working hard to keep it that way.

"My weight has been staying at 295ish," Stanko said. "Our team has been going through Coach Menendez's workouts since the 7th, and we are all improving greatly."

And now, more than ever, the future Nittany Lion is determined to take advantage of his new weight.

"I feel great," Stanko said. "I have never been able to push myself this hard before due to my weight, and I feel that I'm great where I am now."

He continued, "I am still explosive, but now I can just be more efficiently explosive and for longer."

Which, according to Stanko, will help more than just that.

"I feel like I will be more useful in downfield blocking now," Stanko said. "Instead of just ruling the trenches."

Which is exactly what the Warren, Ohio standout will try to do throughout his senior season.

"I've been trying to focus on getting ready for the season," Stanko said. "I think we will do well, we have most of our starters back."

Stanko opens his 2011 season August 24th. Stay on Fight On State for the latest on Penn State's Class of 2012 -- and all things PSU.
