Penn State Preview

A quick-hitting look at Joe Paterno's Nittany Lions heading into the 2011 season.

Last season's record: 7-6

Returning starters/letterwinners: 15/41

Key losses: TB Evan Royster (school's career rushing leader); OG Stefen Wisniewski (four-year starter and 2010 All-American); LB Chris Colasanti (2010 leading tackler)

Key returnees: WR Derek Moye (15 career TD catches); LB Mike Mauti (on Butkus and Nagurski Watch Lists); DB D'Anton Lynn (26 consecutive starts)

Best games: Sept. 10, vs. Alabama (Lions seek revenge for last season's ugly road loss); Nov. 26 at Wisconsin (first place in the new Leaders division of the Big Ten may well be on the line)

Projected finish: 9-4

Outlook: An unsettled QB race and reshuffling along the O-line will cause headaches against the better teams on the schedule. Otherwise, PSU is loaded at the skill positions on offense. Defensively, there is a major talent upgrade at LB and the DBs are a veteran group. The front four will be good, too, if it can avoid the injury bug.
