Ranking the PSU Wrestlers

With the season a month or so away, Amateur Wrestling News rankings have been released, ranking the defending National Champion Nittany Lions in each of the ten weight classes for the coming season.

Penn State boasts three No. 1 rankings this preseason; senior Frank Molinaro (149 pounds), junior Quentin Wright (184 pounds) and sophomore David Taylor (165 pounds).

A three-time All-American and national runner-up in 149-pound weight class last year, Molinaro posted a 32-3 record en route to the 2011 Big Ten championship that he won.

Wright, a two-time All-American, had a 12-6 record heading into the championship bouts, but won his final nine matches, eventually winning both the Big Ten and National Championship titles at 184 pounds.

Taylor, a freshman All-American and Big Ten Freshman of the Year, posted an impressive freshman year, going 38-0, winning the Big Ten 157 championship and earning the runner-up position in the National Championship.

Here are how the Nittany Lions rank in each of the weight classes by Amateur Wrestling News:

125 pounds: Nico Megaludis, No. 16
133 pounds: Bryan Pearsall, No. 19
141 pounds: Andrew Alton, No. 4
149 pounds: Frank Molinaro, No. 1
157 pounds: Dylan Alton, No. 10
165 pounds: David Taylor, No. 1
174 pounds: Ed Ruth, No. 2
184 pounds: Quentin Wright, No. 1
197 pounds: Morgan McIntosh, No. 12
285 pounds: Cameron Wade, No. 3

The 2011-12 cwrestling season warms up with an Intrasquad Dual on Thursday, Nov. 3, in Rec Hall with the regular season kicking off with a home dual against Bloomsburg on Sunday, Nov. 13 in Rec Hall at 2 pm.
