IOWA: Report Card

Who made the grade and who came up short in Penn State's victory over the Hawkeyes at Beaver Stadium? Get the lowdown.

Our report card from Penn State's 13-3 win over Iowa.

OVERALL: Not perfect by any means. But after losing eight of the previous nine in this series, any Nittany Lion win over the Hawkeyes is a good win.
Grade: B

OFFENSE: The line did a solid job, in our eyes. Should have resulted in a lot more points.
Grade: C-

DEFENSE: This unit just got better and better and better as the game went on. It all starts with a pair of outstanding defensive tackles.
Grade: A

SPECIAL TEAMS: Anthony Fera had another good day and the coverage teams were excellent. Slight demerits for not getting anything out of the return game.
Grade: B

COACHING: Joe Paterno and his staff pushed most of the right buttons in this one. We liked the blitz-heavy approach in the second half and the focus on the offensive ground game in the fourth quarter. Penn State threw one pass in the fourth quarter, and it was good for a touchdown.
Grade: B+

INTANGIBLES: With all the talk of Iowa dominating the series, Penn State grabbed control at the start of this one and never let go.
Grade: A+

OTHER GUY: Strange to see Iowa with a poor defensive line and a crappy running game.
Grade: C

OFFICIALS: We didn't see anything too bad from the men in white and black.
Grade: B

CROWD: Nice turnout for a game between two unranked teams. And the fans were very vocal in the fourth quarter.
Grade: B+
