NU: Report Card

Who made the grade and who came up short in Penn State's victory at Northwestern Saturday? Get the lowdown.

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Our report card from Penn State's 34-24 win over Northwestern here Saturday night.

OVERALL: Have we mentioned that a win is a win is a win?
Grade: B-

OFFENSE: This group seemed to find a groove with Matt McGloin as a starter. That was until the play-calling got a little goofy in the second half.
Grade: B

DEFENSE: Great effort in pitching a second-half shutout. But the first half was as bad as we've seen PSU this season.
Grade: C+

SPECIAL TEAMS: Generally solid but Chaz Powell's early fumble led to a short-field TD for the Wildcats.
Grade: B

COACHING: The brain trust pushed the right buttons when it mattered most -- again.
Grade: B

INTANGIBLES: This team is comfortable in tight games. We like that.
Grade: A

OTHER GUY: Northwestern is basically a four-man team.
Grade: C-

OFFICIALS: We thought the holding call that brought back a PSU TD was dicey.
Grade: C

CROWD: It was listed at 40,004 but was not close to that. Empty seats everywhere. And people were leaving with NU down 10 in the middle of the fourth quarter.
Grade: D
