But what really happened to start the rumor mill spinning?
According to a source at the university, the wife of former Nittany Lion football coach Joe Paterno contacted the athletic department via phone earlier this week to inquire about possibly using facilities at the Lasch Football Building (which does not have a swimming pool).
"That was the beginning of discussions about the details of (the Paternos) future use of the building," the source said.
In the past, Sue Paterno used a small pool at Lasch that has an underwater treadmill.
The source insisted Sue Paterno was "not thrown out of anywhere or denied access."
Joe Paterno was fired Nov. 9 in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky scandal. His office at Lasch Building was cleaned out by the end of that week.
His son, Jay Paterno, is still an assistant coach with the Nittany Lions and works at Lasch.
In related news, members of Joe Paterno's family were spotted in a suite at the Jordan Center for the Penn State basketball team's win over Youngstown State Wednesday. .
