So far Clemson and Tulane have each given Shukree a verbal scholarship. LionNews asked Shukree if he expects any new offers in the near future.
"Penn State most likely. I've also gotten a bunch of letters from Iowa. They (Iowa) called my house and they came to my school."
How much interest has Penn State shown?
"They came out [to my school] last year when I was a sophomore. They told my coach and my uncle and a bunch of stuff about me. They said I have good lateral movement with my feet, nice size and that I'm fast for a big guy. They also told my coach this when I was up there for the Nike Camp. I worked out with the defensive ends there."
Penn State has not yet been to his high school this year, but they did call him at home a couple of weeks ago and spoke with his uncle. (Shukree's uncle is also his guardian.)
According to Shukree, his stats from this year's Nike Camp at Penn State had him measuring in at 6'3 1/4", weighing in at 285 pounds, and timed at 5.0 in the 40. He benched 185 pounds 21 times. What were his impressions of the campus?
"That was my first time up there, for the Nike Camp. I thought it was a nice facility. [Coach Carter] took us around the whole thing. We visited the field, the weight room, and their study hall."
Does he have any other visits scheduled?
"I visited Rutgers and I'm supposed to be going to Ohio State for their camp and probably down to Clemson this summer."
Shukree is good friends with [former Penn State recruiting target and Tulane-commit] Elijah Robinson who used to attend Camden, and is now at Woodrow Wilson. However, when asked about his current favorites, Elijah does not appear to be swaying him towards Tulane just yet.
"I like Clemson, Penn State, Iowa, and Miami."
When asked to describe himself Shukree said, "I'm a hard worker and very fast. I tried to play every game like it's my last."
Barfield has a 2.5 GPA, and is still awaiting his SAT results; he is taking the ACT next weekend.
