Dowrey Talks Penn State Visit

Penn State defensive tackle commit Derek Dowrey talks about his official visit to Happy Valley this past weekend.

For Penn State defensive tackle commit Derek Dowrey of John Handley High (VA), this weekend marked many firsts. While the 6-foot-4, 308-pounder had visited Happy Valley in the past, this was his first official visit, first time meeting fellow commits and first time in front of new head coach Bill O'Brien. "It was a lot longer of a visit. I got to meet all the commits and talk to them in-person which was great."

"We were finally together, feeling more like a group. Since most of us were able to be there, it felt like a family."

Dowrey commented on moving on from the scandal.

"Everyone is looking ahead. Even the players that had been through it, their attitude is looking at the future, going forward and making the best of the future, and it's going to be good. I am looking forward to it."

Dowrey, who was recruited by Penn State defensive line coach Larry Johnson, talks about meeting with coach O'Brien for the first time.

"I got to meet coach O'Brien this morning and he spoke to all of the commits and their families. I am glad I got to talk to him in-person and am excited to play for him. He is intense and we will go out there and have a great season. He, like many, said we can't change what happened, and is definitely sending that message that we can only move forward."
