Calvert Hall DB Eyes the Nittany Lions

Johnson will camp at Penn State this summer. Two former teammates are in PSU's Class of 2012. Another one is already on campus.

Calvert Hall's Delando Johnson was finishing a track meet Wednesday afternoon when he took some time to reflect on his Blue-White Game visit to Penn State.

The Maryland 2013 defensive back said he's running track for the first time this year to improve himself on the football field.

“I went out for track to work on my strides and all that stuff, and just get faster for football,” Johnson said.

He also said he enjoyed his visit to Saturday's Blue-White Game.

“I loved the atmosphere,” he explained. “I went to the spring game at Boston College, and you can tell the difference. The fans at Penn State are definitely into it.”

Johnson didn't obtain an offer, but will be attending camp at Penn State June 2. Secondary coach John Butler and defensive line coach Larry Johnson will be at Calvert Hall next Wednesday to visit Johnson.

“It means a lot to me that any of the coaches are coming, but having the defensive backs coach come really means a lot,” he said.

Miami was in to visit Wednesday and USC has also expressed interest.

Johnson would see plenty of familiar faces at Penn State if he landed at the school, as his secondary teammates at Calvert Hall -- safety Trevor Williams and cornerback Da'Quan Davis -- are both part of Penn State's 2012 recruiting class. He also knows Penn State safety Adrian Amos, who graduated from Calvert Hall in 2011.

“I could see myself at Penn State,” Johnson said.

As for when he'll decide, Johnson said he's not in any hurry.

“I decided that I'm going to commit on signing day,” Johnson said.
