Greg Pickel's PSU Pick Six

Tackling the latest in Penn State recruiting, including updates on Alex Anzalone and Al-Rasheed Benton.

Trending topics on the Penn State recruiting scene.

• Wyomissing, Pa., linebacker Alex Anzalone brought his father and two brothers on his trip to Happy Valle Thursday. They will meet with academic advisors to discuss his academic intent if he were to chose Penn State, as well as meet with the coaching staff. The latest appears to have Florida and Notre Dame ahead of Penn State in the race to receive a commitment from the four-star linebacker, so the Nittany Lions are no doubt pulling out all the stops. It's expected that Bill O'Brien, Ron Vanderlinden, and Craig Fitzgerald (among others) will all meet with Anzalone, and they, along with the current commits visiting Thursday, will be the guys spending the most time with the star 'backer and his family. It appears the Nittany Lion staff is viewing this visit as its last, best shot to jump up with Anzalone.

• Malcom X. Shabazz (Newark, N.J.) linebacker Al-Rasheed Benton is in no rush to make a decision despite the recent commitments of Brandon Bell and Zach Bradshaw to Penn State. Penn State still appears to be a clear leader, and the Lions aren't pressuring him to make a commitment at this time. He's expected to take visits to Maryland and Virginia this summer. It does not seem likely that he will make a decision in the near future.

Will Fuller was set to visit Penn State this weekend and bring Imhotep Charter running back (and fellow Philadelphia product) David Williams with him, but Fuller now has a seven on seven scheduled and they won't be able to make the trip. Fuller said he and Williams are going to reschedule as soon as possible.

• Williamstown (N.J.) High Class of 2014 prospect Marques Little said he has remained in contact with PSU secondary coach John Butler, and Little called Butler earlier this week. The two talked about how big this year is for Little, and how the Nittany Lions are excited to see him play. Little also noted that his interest in Penn State remains very high, and that he enjoys his weekly chats with Butler.

• New Jersey running back Jonathan Hilliman is up to 11 offers, and is set to visit Penn State in July. Hilliman said Penn State stands out to him because it high football tradition matches its high academics, and also said academics are what is most important to him in a school.

Quick Hitters: Wharton High (Tampa) cornerback Vernon Hargreaves III said he hasn't planned a visit to Penn State yet, but is in the process of doing so. ... Miramar (Fla.) High linebacker Jermaine Grace Jr. said he is nowhere near a decision, and has yet to make a list or narrow his recruitment. … PSU verbal commit Greg Webb may be visiting Penn State this weekend on the heels of an article stating he will be making a trip to the South this summer.
