Dan Connor, a 6-foot-2, 215-pound, linebacker from Wallingford (Pa.) Strath Haven has 42 written scholarship offers and according to his father, three schools remain in the hunt for his son's services.
"It's Michigan, Penn State and Notre Dame," said Jim Connor. "We've been to all three schools and Dan feels very comfortable with each coaching staff and school.
"Dan would like to make a decision before the season starts. Penn State is fairly local for us but he's also an Irish Catholic and he likes the idea of playing for Notre Dame.
"I'm a school teacher and I'm also the defensive coordinator at Strath Haven. I think we've seen everything we need to see but I told Dan that since I have the time off this summer, if he wants to take one last look at the schools before deciding, we could do that."
Connor is a pre-season All-America candidate and he's the #1 ranked linebacker according to TheInsiders.com recruiting experts.
Connor is also a terrific running back. Which position will he play in college?
"Dan has a linebacker mentality but he likes to play running back," said Jim Connor. "He wears number 40 and has a poster of Mike Alstott in his room but he also likes another #40, John Ritchie from the Raiders. Plus we have the same colors as the Raiders.
"Wisconsin and Syracuse both offered Dan as a running back. Everyone else is basically wherever he fits in but the bulk of the schools want Dan as a linebacker." Connor said.
Dan Connor comes from a family of athletes. Older brother, Jim Connor, was an offensive lineman at Boston College. Michael Connor played quarterback for Delaware and Dan has a sister who also was a D-1 athlete.
Connor has rushed for 2,800 yards and 49 touchdowns in his Strath Haven career. He also has 320 tackles and 16 interceptions in three years.
Dan Connor is an easy-going young man off the football field. He's very well liked in the community, he's a good student and he loves to play the guitar in his free time.
With the 2003, season a little less than two months away, Dan Connor will decide which school he will continue his football and educational careers.
Joe Paterno, Lloyd Carr and Tyrone Willingham each hope they have the winning lottery ticket.
