New Era for FOS Friday Night Tailgate

Our night-before-the-game tradition continues at the hot new spot in Happy Valley — Gigi's. Join Goon, Brennan and company in a social atmosphere.

The Bill O'Brien era at Penn State kicks off this weekend, as the first-year head coach and his Nittany Lions face Ohio at Beaver Stadium.

Here at, we are entering a bit of a new era, too.

Starting this week, the FOS Friday Night Tailgate is moving to the hottest new restaurant and lounge in Happy Valley -- Gigi's. Located a short drive west of downtown State College, Gigi's opened during the summer and has received strong reviews for its outstanding menu and “casual … yet swank” atmosphere.

The FOS crew will be setting up shop in the lounge area, and the idea behind the tailgate is the same as always. It is a chance for FOS community members to talk football and socialize with staffers, former players and media types, all in a laid-back environment.

Keith Conlin, an All-Big Ten tackle on PSU's great 1994 team, will be on hand. So will FOS editor Mark Brennan. From week to week, you never know which familiar faces will be stopping by to say hello.

The timeframe is the same as always, too. We'll kick off the action at 6 p.m. and go until at least 9 p.m. When you arrive, let the hostess know you are there for the Fight On State get-together and she will show you where we are.

Gigi's is located at: 2080 Cato Avenue, State College, Pa., 16801. See the map below.

It is easy to get to via West College Avenue or Whitehall Road. There is plenty of parking. The CATA K bus route also has a stop right in front of Gigi's.

The lounge at Gigi's offers a full menu.

But if you would like to check out the fine-dining side of the business before joining the FOS crowd, we encourage you to call in advance to see if reservations are available: 814-861-3463.
