CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- The Penn State football team received a warm welcome upon arriving at the team hotel for this weekend's game at Virginia, and not just because temperatures approached 90 in Charlottesville.
Dozens of Nittany Lion fans were on hand to greet their team as it emerged from its three-bus convey from the airport. Penn State arrived at the Doubletree here just after 4 p.m.
The first man off the first bus was new head coach Bill O'Brien. He and the rest of the staff were outfitted in jackets and ties.
The players, however, were in sweat suits — a departure from the Joe Paterno era, when they were required to wear jackets and ties while traveling.
Another noticeable change: several wives of coaches were on the trip, including Colleen O'Brien. Paterno generally frowned on women traveling with the team.
