CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Our report card from Penn State 17-16 loss to Virginia here Saturday.

OVERALL: We saw some good things. But in the end, a loss is a loss is a loss.
Grade: C

OFFENSE: The defense gave this unit great field position throughout the game. The offense kept blowing the opportunities.
Grade: C-

DEFENSE: Sure, there were a couple of key breakdowns. But had the offense capitalized on the chances the defense supplied, those breakdowns would not have been as much of an issue.
Grade: C+

SPECIAL TEAMS: Any positive was wiped out by the disaster at place-kicker.
Grade: F

COACHING: I'm not sure we can blame this staff for not having a capable kicker. It had no control over losing Anthony Fera and was left with an obviously bare cupboard otherwise.
Grade: C+

INTANGIBLES: The Lions were resilient until the very end. Have to give them credit for that.
Grade: B

OTHER GUY: This is not a very good ACC team. And that makes the loss that much more difficult to stomach.
Grade: C

OFFICIALS: How many timing issues can one crew have in a single game?
Grade: D

CROWD: We're talking about the Penn State fans who showed up. They were all over the place before the game and made themselves heard during it.
Grade: A
