CALLING CARD: DBs Coach John Butler

See what the Penn State assistant had to say on a variety of topics when he spoke with the media Wednesday.

Penn State secondary and special teams coach John Butler held a conference call with the media Wednesday morning.

See what he had to say on select topics in our Calling Card feature.

On if PSU will install the nickel during the bye week:

We have our Roadrunner package, which is the best we can do nickel-wise. We'll play nickel when we have nickel personnel. Until we have nickel personnel, we've got to continue to build our package around what we're doing.

What we're not gonna do is take a player off the field who is better than a secondary player. What we've done to help ourselves is we've brought in Mike Hull at linebacker and we move Amos to safety and we bring in another (cornerback). That's kind of our version of that right now.

When you only have six DBs on scholarship, one of the first things we've got to do is solve this thing with recruiting. I know that a lot of the readers out there are wondering why we don't play nickel, and I guess I'm wondering why I only had six DBs when I took the job here.
