OVERALL: The Nittany Lions did not play particularly well in any area. Lots of blame to go around.
DEFENSE: Because the offense struggled, this unit was on the field much more than it had been in recent weeks. It clearly made a difference as the defenders looked tired in the second half.
SPECIAL TEAMS: The blocked punt for The Opening score was big. We won't penalize this unit for the phantom holding call during an Ohio State punt that kept the Buckeyes' first scoring drive alive.
COACHING: For the first time since early in the season, this did not look like a particularly well-coached team.
INTANGIBLES: The Lions did not capitalize on an electric atmosphere in Beaver Stadium.
OTHER GUY: Ohio State played well. But if this is the best the Big Ten has to offer, it is just another indication of how far the league has slipped.
OFFICIALS: Ironic that while Penn State fans were complaining about a lack of offensive holding calls during the game, that a key turning point was on a defensive holding call on an OSU punt. We have never seen that call before.
CROWD: O'Brien asked fans to show up early and be loud. They did just that.
