An early June 2012 commitment to Penn State, Oakcrest High (Mays Landing, N.J.) linebacker Brandon Bell has quickly grown to be one of the most active recruits on social media in the off-season. The senior recorded 68 tackles -- averaging 13.9 per game -- in the fall of 2012, and was also named to the New Jersey All-Group 4 first team as a linebacker.
FOS: What is your signing day going to be like?
Bell: I'm going to have a small ceremony at 4 o'clock in the school cafeteria with the local paper and news channel, but I'm going to sign it in the morning. (NOTE: Bell faxed his Letter of Intent to University Park early Wednesday morning.) I went to one a few years ago when a teammate signed to Villanova, so I always envisioned my ceremony being like that.
FOS: What are you most excited to get on campus for?
Bell: I'm most excited about getting in the weight room with Coach (Craig) Fitzgerald and the rest of the team. He's a fiery kind of guy. I think that's the best way to explain him. He's a down to earth kind of guy, and the first time I spoke to him, I got the feeling that he was like an older brother. He's ready to work you and definitely a good person.
FOS: What aspects of the Class of 2013 do you like most?
Bell: I like that we're all in it to win it. Once everybody committed, and we knew everybody that was staying, we just became real close. Half of us aren't even there yet, and we've only met a few times, but with everything everybody has gone through the last eight months, we just became real close.
FOS: What's one area you believe is a strength. And what area do you want to improve on once you get to Penn State?
Bell: It's hard, because coming out of high school you want to improve everything. I'd say my knowledge of the game, for me, is the biggest strength. Whether it be the playbook or the scouting report, I feel I get that stuff down pretty well. An area I want to and think I can improve in is pass coverage, and getting back out in coverage.
FOS: What do you want to study at Penn State?
Bell: I'm not officially decided yet, but I've looked into advertising and public relations. I definitely want to do something in public relations.
