EMU: Report Card

Who made the grade and who came up short as Penn State grounded the Eagles Saturday? Get the details right here.

Our report card from Penn State's 45-7 win over Eastern Michigan.

OVERALL: The Nittany Lions could have put this one away much earlier. EMU is pretty bad.
Grade: B-

OFFENSE: The fact that PSU did not drop the hammer sooner is on this group. To its credit, it got rolling in the fourth quarter.
Grade: C

DEFENSE: The Eagles may not be very good. But they had good starting field position most of the day and Penn State did not allow a single offensive point.
Grade: A

SPECIAL TEAMS: This area has really improved from last season. Good all-around effort.
Grade: B

COACHING: No gripes with John Butler's defensive staff. But the offense's lack of efficiency on third down (2 of 26 through two games) is puzzling considering Bill O'Brien's play-calling pedigree.
Grade: B-

INTANGIBLES: Another game where, even when it was close, one never got the sense PSU was in trouble.
Grade: A

OTHER GUY: Have to wonder how much longer Ron English is going to last at Eastern Michigan.
Grade: D+

OFFICIALS: Seemed about average to us.
Grade: C

CROWD: Too bad for all the people who stayed home and missed a simply glorious day in Happy Valley.
Grade: C-
