The Searchers: Meet the Selection Team

We introduce you to the six people who are tasked with finding Penn State's next head football coach. Some you know. So you may not.

A quick look at Penn State's football coach search committee, which was announced Thursday.

Dr. Dave Joyner (Chair)

Title: Athletic Director
The Lowdown: Joyner is a former Penn State All-American football player and wrestler who went on to a successful career as an orthopedic surgeon. He also served on Penn State's Board of Trustees from 2000 until November 2011, when he was named athletic director after former AD Tim Curley was forced out in the wake of the Sandusky scandal. He was on the selection committee that hired Bill O'Brien.

Wally Richardson

Title: Director, Penn State Football Letterman's Club
The Lowdown: Richardson was a quarterback at Penn State in the mid-1990s, and was the starter in 1995 and '96. He led the team to a 20-5 record in those seasons. After an NFL and XFL career, he returned to Penn State as an academic counselor in 2001, and worked for the football program in that regard from 2003-07. He went on to hold similar positions at Georgia (2007-11) and North Carolina (2011) before returning to PSU to head up the Letterman's Club last April.

Charmelle Green

Title: Associate Athletic Director, Senior Woman Administrator
The Lowdown: Green was an All-American softball player at Utah in the early 1990s. She later was an assistant softball coach at Notre Dame (2001-05), before joining the school's athletic administration in 2005. There, she served as the head of the Office of Student-Athlete Welfare & Development. She came to PSU in 2011, and is tasked with overseeing 10 different sports. She was on the committee that hired O'Brien.

Bob Warming

Title: Men's Soccer Head Coach
The Lowdown: Warming has soccer coach at PSU since 2010. But he spent most of this long career at Creighton, where in two stints (1990-94, 2001-09) he led the Bluejays to 190 wins, seven MVC championships, 11 NCAA Tournaments and the 2002 College Cup. He guided PSU to the Big Ten Tournament championship game in 2010 and 2011, and was named conference Coach of the Year in 2012. Penn State won the Big Ten regular-season title in 2012 and '13.

Dr. Linda Caldwell

Title: Faculty Athletics Representative
The Lowdown: Caldwell is a professor of recreation, parks and tourism management, and has been a member of Penn State's faculty since 1995. She did her undergraduate work at PSU, before doing post-grad work at North Carolina State (masters) and Maryland (Ph. D). Much of her research is targeted on promoting healthy lifestyles among children worldwide. In 2011, she was named Penn State Faculty Athletics Representative to the NCAA. She was also on the search committee that hired O'Brien.

Dr. Tom Poole

Title: Vice President of Administration
The Lowdown: Poole has held his current position since 2009. Prior to that, he served as associate to the president for administration. In May of 2013, Poole was elected as secretary of Penn State's Board of Trustees, where he answers directly to the board chair. In that capacity, his basic job is to perform the corporate duties of the board. Poole holds a BA in religion and philosophy from Roberts Wesleyan (1974), a masters in theology from Colgate Rochester Divinity School/Crozer Theological Seminary (1977) and Ph. D. in religious studies from Penn State (1984).
