DC Butler, Others Also Leaving Penn State

Former Penn State defensive coordinator will become secondary coach with the Houston Texans. In related news, PSU announces it has received multiple resignations.

The changes to the Penn State football coaching staff are coming fast and furious.

Earlier Monday, we reported that strength and conditioning coach Craig Fitzgerald had resigned to accept the same position with former Nittany Lion coach Bill O'Brien with the NFL's Houston Texans.

We have just learned that defensive coordinator John Butler is also headed to Houston, where he will coach the secondary. This from a source close to Butler.

Friday afternoon, Penn State released a statement saying three assistant coaches -- Stan Hixon (receivers), Charles London (running backs) and Anthony Midget (safeties) -- had resigned. All are expected to join O'Brien in Houston.

Penn State also announced the resignation of Fitzgerald, as well as strength and conditioning assistants Dwight Galt IV and Sean Hayes.

Later, Penn State issued another release saying Butler and special assistant to the head coach Jim Bernhardt had also submitted their resignations.

The latest departures leave three men from O'Brien's 2013 staff — interim head coach Larry Johnson, offensive line coach Mac McWhorter and tight ends coach John Strollo.
