The entire Penn State football team answered roll call at James Franklin's first squad meeting Sunday.

The Penn State football team returned to University Park Sunday after a three-week semester break.

The operative words there are “team” and “returned.”

Because in the time the Nittany Lions were away, they lost now-former head coach Bill O'Brien (and much of his staff) to the NFL's Houston Texans and saw Penn State hire now-former Vanderbilt coach James Franklin to replace him.

Franklin held his first full squad meeting at Lasch Building Sunday night, and according to PSU sources all players who were expected to report did so. That included the five new faces (four freshmen and a junior college transfer) who are enrolling for the spring semester.

The meeting in the Squad Room at Lasch began just before 7 p.m. and lasted about 30 minutes. Franklin, who is in the process of assembling his staff, was the only coach in the room.

Player availability to the media is expected to happen within the next few days.
