FRANKLY SPEAKING: Wednesday Recruiting Notes

See the latest developments around Penn State football's recruiting efforts as National Signing Day quickly approaches.

Good morning from a still cold State College,

If you're keeping track, the sprint to National Signing Day on Feb. 5 is down to seven days, or in other terms, six days for Penn State to make a final push to fill its two spots. 2014 updates

We'll start with the weekend ahead, and reports that two-star Tuscaloosa (Ala.) Academy OLB Torrence Brown will be visiting University Park.

The senior declined to confirm multiple requests, so I put out feelers to some of our team in the south. The rumbling they received is that Brown is considering a visit, but that it wasn't set in stone yet. I have a note into his head coach, and hope to learn more in the morning.

Moving on to the two names we listed Tuesday night, as of this writing, it does not appear Jacksonville (Fla.) William M. Raines corner Lamont Simmons has committed to USC following an in-home. Two options in play here, the first being he could be waiting to announce until after he calls other programs, the other of course being he didn't commit. I left him alone Tuesday night unsure how long the visit would last, but he'll be the first prospect I contact in the morning.
The other is Tampa (Fla.) Gaither corner Amani Oruwariye, who picked up a Missouri offer Tuesday night. According to our Missouri publisher, the corner will visit the Tigers this weekend, and thus it looks like the holding pattern will continue on his front.
Finally, plenty of talk has circulated about two prospects the former staff targeted: Monroeville (Pa.) Gateway safety Montae Nicholson and Aliquippa (Pa.) corner Dravon Henry. We've confirmed...
