Odds and Ends
This really shouldn't come as a surprise, but the one word I keep hearing when it comes to the coaching staff is energy. A few guys I spoke with, including Jordan Whitehead, chuckled recalling James Franklin jumping to give them a high-five when he bumped into them during junior day, just for the heck of it. There's no question these guys find a way to connect with prospects that has rarely been seen at Penn State.
I'll have a full update on Monaca (Pa.) Central Valley corner Jordan Whitehead's visit later today, but as you can see above, I like where Penn State stands with him. As a tease, I'll note he said the visit was "way better than expected."
Another guys I'll have a story on in the coming days is Pittsburgh (Pa.) Central Catholic junior center Eric McAllister, who visited Penn State for junior day. He's probably considered undersized, checking in at around 6-foot-1, but Herb Hand told him that didn't matter after watching his film. He'll come to camp, for the third year in a row, this summer with the hopes of landing an offer.
Penn State class of 2014 defensive end commit Torrence Brown finished his final interscholastic season with a state title Wednesday. Tuscaloosa (Ala.) Academy defeated 47-44 to win the AISA Class AAA crown, and according to AL.com, Brown chipped in 23 points and was named the tournament's MVP.
