Here are initial squad observations from the spring drill session:
Neither Andrew Nelson, Miles Dieffenbach, nor Angelo Mangiro were seen at the practice. Wendy Laurent snapped to Christian Hackenberg, Tom Devenney to D.J. Crook, and Derek Dowrey to Austin Whipple and Michael O'Connor.
In offensive line drill work with Herb Hand, one group, from left to right, was Donovan Smith, Derek Dowrey, Wendy Laurent, Brian Gaia, and Brendan Mahon. The other was, from left to right, Albert Hall, Evan Galimberti, Tom Devenney, Andrew Terlingo, and Chasz Wright.
Receiver DaeSean Hamilton did not have a wrap on either wrist, but still did not catch passes in drill work with position coach Josh Gattis.
TE Jesse James was out the previous open session, but was at practice today. Also LB Ben Kline was fully dressed but appeared to have his participation in drills limited.
As reported previously, Penn State had an array of prospects on hand for unofficial visits to the practice session.
Bethlehem, Pa. Catholic receiver Freddie Simmons is a new name to add to the visitors list. I will have more to add later once we go through photos, but would guess there was about 70 high school athletes and coaches on hand.
Walk-on Brandon Kuntz was also in attendance with his graduated brother, Christian. I also noticed class of 2015 running back Saquon Barkley, and class of 2014 running back commit Nick Scott was on hand as well. Did see the Gilman contingent that Rachel posted about previously. Did not see Steven Gonzalez but did confirm he is on campus.
Couple other names to add: Three-star Montclair, N.J. 2015 athlete Elijah Robinson and 2016 DE Quayshon Alexander, who was along with four or five Wayne, N.J. DePaul Catholic recruits that included class of 2016 running back Kareem Walker.
