HUMMELSTOWN, Pa. — To some, Joey Julius may just be a kicker. But don't tell him that.
The Hummelstown, Pa., Lower Dauphin booter will take place in a high school game for a final time Saturday at the Big 33 Classic. Being around the game — held at nearby Hersheypark Stadium — is not new. Being a part of it, however, is.
Julius switched gears this spring, turning away from a lifelong commitment to soccer to pursue his dreams of football, and specifically kicking. He'll enroll at and walk on at Penn State this summer.
But is kicking the only thing he'll do in blue and white? Well, maybe. But he's prepared himself for all of the possibilities, anyway.
FOS caught up with Julius on the opening day of practice for the 57th Classic on the kicker's stomping grounds at Lower Dauphin High School. He talks about his decision to pick soccer over football, what the game means to him and, of course, Penn State, in the video above.
