Robinson's had a busy summer

Robbie Robinson’s stock continues to rise. The 2016 Hampton (Va.) Phoebus cornerback spoke with about the latest developments in his recruitment.

Michigan State was my latest offer and that’s 13,” said Robbie Robinson. “They play hard-nosed defense and they fly straight to the ball.

"It’s great to get an offer from them. Every offer is big. But Michigan State is a big-time program. I’m definitely going to visit soon. If I don’t get up there before the school year starts, I’ll definitely go for a game in the fall.”

Along with the Spartans, Robinson holds offers from Clemson, Duke, Georgia Tech, Penn State, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin among others.

This summer, Robinson has taken trips to Clemson, Duke, Michigan State, NC State, Virginia and most recently Notre Dame.

”Everything at Notre Dame was really nice,” said the 5-foot-9, 165-pound Robinson. “I actually stayed out there for five days. I camped one of that days while I was there and I got to see everything the rest of the time I was there.

”I enjoyed seeing all the tradition. They also have a really cool campus and great academics. I was really impressed with the facilities, too. They’re really nice. I also enjoyed seeing the Golden Dome.”

While Robinson has enjoyed all the visits he has taken this summer, one stood out.

”I’d say I probably enjoyed Clemson the most,” he said. “There was a really positive vibe and they have a lot of renovations coming soon that will be finished by the time my class graduates time from high school. I also met (redshirt freshman cornerback) Mackenzie Alexander and had a really good time hanging out with him for a few days.”

This fall will be a busy time for Robinson.

”We’re trying to get to every school that has offered,” he said. “But I know I’m going to get to Penn State, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Wisconsin and West Virginia.”

Robinson has a timetable for his college decision.

”I’m going to do that after my junior season,” he said. “I’ll probably cut it to ten. I know Clemson, UVa, Georgia Tech, West Virginia and Wisconsin will make the cut. That’s not a top five, but they’re the schools I talk to the most. Then I’ll probably commit before my senior season.”

Robinson finished his sophomore season with 80 tackles, four sacks and four interceptions (returned one for a touchdown) on defense. Offensively, he had two receptions for 88 yards and two carries for 123 yards and a touchdown. On special teams, he had seven touchdowns – five kickoff returns and two punt returns.
