Wade Recaps Latest Trip, Plans More

Clairton, Pa., 2017 cornerback has three offers and has toured a few local programs this summer.

Lamont Wade may just be entering his sophomore year, but that doesn't mean he hasn't been actively looking toward the next level.

The Clairton, Pa., three-star cornerback has offers from Pittsburgh, West Virginia, and Temple heading into his second season with the Bears. He's seeking more, and is hoping a recent trip to Ohio State for its Friday Night Lights camp, plus planned trips to West Virginia and Penn State in the near future, will help him land them.

"It was a real good experience," Wade said of Ohio State. "There was good competition, and the atmosphere up there was real good.

The Buckeyes held the camp in the evening, which is something Wade said he's never experienced before.

"I liked that, and how they had the fans comes in and show up at camp. That stood out a lot.

So, too, did the Buckeyes coaching staff. It {or any other college staff} can't have contact with the corner per NCAA rules, but since he was on campus, he got to know some of head coach Urban Meyer's staff a little bit better.

"The coaches were really hands on," Wade said. "They wanted to make sure you knew what you were doing, and they kept saying I'm a 2017 guy so I'll be alright.

"They just said keep working on what you're doing.

Wade isn't completely certain on when he will visit Morgantown, W.Va., to check out the Mountaineers, and the same goes for University Park and Penn State. The junior is eyeing July 30 or July 31 for West Virginia, adding he's looking at Aug. 4, the day the Nittany Lions open summer camp, to visit Penn State.

"When I went down there for the camp [at West Virginia], I liked it and the atmosphere," Wade said. "I want to go back down and see how their [summer] camp is run.

As for Penn State, the 5-foot-10, 180 pound sophomore said he already knows some of its staff, but wants to see how it operates, too.

"The coaches, [head] Coach [James] Franklin and [corners] Coach [Terry] Smith, they are really cool guys," Wade said. "They always keep it real with me, and their setup is awesome.
