Penn State James Franklin PC Wrap

See the video as the Nittany Lion coach honors legendary broadcaster Fran Fisher. We break down the press conference, too.

There was a special twist when Penn State coach James Franklin met the media for his weekly press conference at Beaver Stadium Tuesday.

Franklin arrived in the Media Room a few minutes early, and was carrying a cake. He began singing “Happy Birthday” as he made his was to the back of the room.

There, he presented the cake to retired Penn State radio play-by-play man Fran Fisher, who turned 91 Tuesday. Fisher still attends the PC every week, and sits in the back of the room with Nittany Lion sports historian and close friend Lou Prato.

Franklin called Fisher a “legend when it comes to Penn State athletics, a legend when it comes to this community. … I wanted to take some time to let him know how much we appreciate all his years of service to Penn State.”

You can check out the video of Franklin presenting Fisher with the cake -- complete with a classic self-depreciating zinger from the sharp-witted Fisher -- below.

Further down in this story, you can check out our weekly breakdown of the Franklin press conference. Staffers Mark Brennan and Greg Pickel give the lowdown on the coach's thoughts on upcoming opponent Northwestern, developing depth on defense, getting the running game going on offense and the punt return game on special teams.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO FRAN FISHER
