NJ WR Lists PSU Among Top 3 Teams

Ron Morton of Hamilton West High near Trenton, NJ is fast. He runs a 4.35 40-yard dash and has been timed at 10.7 seconds in the 100m and 22.1 in the 200m. Last year, the speedy wide receiver missed four games due to a left ankle injury. That didn't keep the 6'1", 180 pound wide receiver from getting noticed though. The two-year starter has accumulated several scholarship offers.

"I have offers from Temple, BC, Syracuse, Rutgers, Wisconsin, Virginia, Iowa, Notre Dame, Miami, PSU, Pitt, Maryland, Duke, Georgia Tech, Purdue and North Carolina," said Morton. "There could be a few others that I left out."

The offer from PSU was a verbal offer contingent upon Morton receiving a qualifying SAT score. He is scheduled to take the SAT for the first time in October. He currently has a 2.7 GPA.

"My favorites are Virginia, Rutgers and Penn State," said Morton. "Those are in order. I also like Georgia Tech and Miami."

"I've spoken with some of the staff at Virginia over the phone and they sound like good people. They are my mom's favorite. She really likes the academics at Virginia. I also like Coach Schiano of Rutgers. I attended a practice at Rutgers a couple of Saturdays ago. I like the staff at Penn State too. I feel like I know them the best. I've been to Penn State's camp the last two years but I didn't go this year because of work and family issues. I was also at a Junior Day there in February."

Ron denies ever saying that he would commit to Penn State if and when they offered as had been reported by a national recruiting source.

According to Ron, he has been invited to all of Penn State's home games this year and is excited to attend the season opener against Miami on September 1.

Ron says distance will probably factor into his decision. He currently plans to take unofficial visits in early September to Virginia, Pitt, PSU and Rutgers. He believes he will take all five of his official visits before deciding.

Ron would like to study history or computer science in college.
