Three-star defensive back Kenney Lyke of Fremd (Ill) High has seen his recruitment virtually take off in the last several weeks. Adding recent offers from Nebraska, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan State and now Penn State.
Thursday, the Nittany Lions added their name to the 6-2, 185-pound prospects offer sheet.
"I've been in contact with Coach Rahne for a while at Penn State and at first he had told me that they weren't going to offer until I got on campus. But they talked with the staff and they pulled the plug."
Quarterback coach Ricky Rahne is the area recruiter for the Chicago area and has taken the lead with Lyke.
"Getting the offer without visiting it's just an interest thing, it shows that the yard actually very interested and worth pursuing harder in their eyes, that feels great," Lyke said.
Speaking of visiting, Lyke plans to get out to State College sometime this spring.
"Sometime in the next couple of months. I'm just excited to see them go out there and see them practice and see what their defense is about," Lyke said.
Lyke has an idea of what he will be looking for when he takes spring visits as well, especially with defensive scheme.
"I'll be looking for a hard nosed, tough defense where the safeties are able to come down and make plays and blitz off the edge," Lyke said. "And where the defense is designed to force everything outside so the safeties can clean it up."
